PROJECT 1: SITE ANALYSIS AT JALAN TUN H.S. LEE

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 5 (ARC 3117/ARC 3118/ ARC 60306)

 

 

The aim of this project contributes in the design of a market place located in the high street, Jalan tun H.S. Lee which is located in the heart of the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The site analysis consist in studying the behaviorology and other physical aspect of the urban context assigned. The project also consist of the study of precedent case studies about market places, which will furthermore help the design of the Urban Infill market place.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

1.   Understand an Urban Context.

2. Acquire knowledge of UBBL restrictions and regulations.

3.   Observation of the behavior of the people around the urban context in order to understand its behaviorology as an entity.

4. Understand the Meaning and function of an Urban Infill as well as a Market Place.

5.  Understand Culture and People Behavior in an urban context in order to design for the people.

 

During the course of this project, I chosed to focus of the Medicinal and Herbal Approach in order to come out with a design of the Market Place. The site being located at the intersection of Jalan tun H.S. Lee and Jalan Gereja which is identified by the St. John Catedral which serves as Landmark. The Street being Partially conservative about the traditions of the old Malaysia, it can be observed that the street is starting to be oppressed genes of modernity. The street identity starts to fade. Thus in order to serve the people, traditions are brought back by implementing a piece of Culture and Tradition which has for aim to be a centerpoint to gather the community all together.
